OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT PARTICIPATION
Undergraduate and graduate students can participate in training and social support for formal and informal caregivers of older adults as well as program and policy development. The Prentiss Care Networks for Formal and Informal Caregivers of Older Adults is an interdisciplinary project with a community service focus.
Examples of ways the project can fulfill educational requirements are:
Undergraduate and graduate students from Case and from other
local colleges have participated in the project to date. Students
are developing demonstration projects and training modules for
formal caregivers and informal (family) caregivers and presenting
training programs in the community. Students have enjoyed the
direct support of faculty in developing and presenting their
work. Through the project, students are involved in meeting
community needs while gaining valuable experiences and meeting
academic objectives. Thus, through the Prentiss Care Networks
project, our students and faculty are fostering partnerships
with communities for improved student education, civic responsibility
and the overall community health.
Dr. Diana L. Morris,
Associate Professor of Nursing at Case and Associate Director
of the University Center on Aging and Health, states that the
Prentiss Care Networks project has enabled faculty and students
to work more closely together to enhance the quality of life
and improve the quality of care for older adults.
